tom hanks seems like a nice guy. even for the simple fact that he had a hand in making the 'band of brothers' HBO mini-series, i am thankful that he is around... though for what he has contributed to acting and movies, should i care about this guy? am i fan? academy awards for 'philadelphia' and 'forrest gump'? - brother, one of those movies was accidententally missing from my infamous 'list of movies' list and the other which will certainly be included on my upcoming 'second list of movies' list (not a good thing). theoretically tom shoulda won me over with 'saving private ryan', as that movie is paint-by-numbers right-up-jimmy's-alley. however, as the character of capt. miller which he played was written, he was glaringly miscast (as a character mentions, "they assembled him at OSC outta spare body parts of dead GIs", not to mention the "i'm a schoolteacher. i teach english composition... in this little town called adley, pennsylvania. the last eleven years, i've been at thomas alva edison high school. i was a coach of the baseball team in the springtime. back home, i tell people what i do for a living and they think well, now that figures. but over here, it's a big, a big mystery." - is it a big mystery? you are tom hanks - you look like an english teacher/baseball coach from adley, pennsylvania, not look like a spare-parts war machine.....).... should i even mention his chick flick list? these are movies i've had to sit through at points of my life. i can't deny some may be the pinnacle of the genre, but really a genre that absolutely means nothing to me... what about the dull da vinci movies? i can't be bothered watching...
should i care about this guy?
ANSWER:
YES, i should! the argument to support this is encompassed in the movie 'joe versus the volcano'.
He was especially great in his older movies when he was always yelling lol. My favorite was always Turner & Hooch (and the Money Pit was also a great one).
